Google Search adds Calculator User Experience

I was really pleasantly surprised by a new Google Search feature today:
Calculator search results.

If you search a math equation like " 4 x 25 = " previously Google would give you an answer in a small block of inline text at the top of the search results page.

With today's update they changed the interface to be a lot more explicit, to let users know that they are in "calculator mode" . This makes for a great user experience because:
  • we are all still trained how to use calculator interfaces
  • it is dead obvious that the search you typed in is being interperted as a math expression
  • it encourages you to do subsequent math operations
  • looks slick
